On this intense course you will learn the process of how to develop your designs in 3D through a series of steps, from initial sketch model making and drawing, material experiments, testing and exploring your designs to finally producing a client presentation appearance model of your design helped by in5 trained workshop technicians, as well as your tutor.
This course may be taken separately, but follows on naturally from Furniture Design | Theory to 3D course where you will have learnt the Design Process and have the foundations for Professional Furniture Design Practice.

    • Who is the course suitable for
    This course is suitable for Interior Designers, Architects, Designers and students; anyone with a strong interest and enthusiasm to develop their own furniture designs. No previous experience is necessary.

    What you’ll come away with
    You will complete the course with a project folio of work showing your creative journey in 3D, with sketches, sketch models, concept development in 3D and a scaled presentation Appearance model of your design. With a pro-active approach to this course, putting as much time in as possible outside of class too it’s possible to have a fully resolved concept in scaled form and a set of production drawings ready to have you design professionally prototyped at 1:1 scale! When this course is combined with Furniture Design | Theory to 3D course (LEVEL 1), you will collectively have a solid and complete foundation, with insights, knowledge and 2D and 3D skills learnt to be able to become a practicing professional furniture designer.

    Requirements
    You will need to bring to this course a clear idea of a furniture design you’d like to develop in sketch form.

    • No other requirements are necessary other than the enthusiasm to learn and explore your ideas
    • No software skills are required, although if have them they can certainly be used.
    Provided
    • A stock of standard workshop materials will be provided.

    Note: Specialist model making materials and art equipment are not included.

    What you need to bring with you
    A camera, or phone camera, a sketch book, a set of pencils HB to 8B. A 300mm ruler, set square and compass.

He has also been teaching part time for over 23 years at Central Saint Martins, BA Product Design and MA Industrial Design course, along with running his own online and classroom short courses at Central Saint Martins.
